Case Studies

  • Risk Based Proposal Win

A large aerospace prime contractor wanted to win a new contract vehicle (contract purchase agreement (CPA) which is similar to an IDIQ) that the company had never done before and expand its weapon systems portfolio.

We led and managed the solution ensuring that the proposal demonstrated how the company was a best value to include low risk. This resulted in the award of the CPA in all but 1 task area, a SW development PO worth $9.8M and opportunities for future engineering services and system development work.

  • $3.6M in New Contracts

A large aerospace prime contractor wanted to leverage a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to discover and exploit opportunities for new weapons technology development.

We wrote the program strategy and managed risks, issues and opportunities (RIO) on the program. By meticulously maintaining the RIO register for the program, we ensured that opportunities were documented, pursuit plans made and executed. This resulted in the award of $3.6M in technology development contracts.

  • FAR Subcontract Success

A $160M+ FAR based manufacturing subcontract needed risk management support to meet its contractual deliverables as well as deliver on time and budget.

We developed a Risk, Issue and Opportunity Management Plan that met the SDRL requirements, nested with the DoD Risk, Issue and Opportunity Management Guidebook, and contained no superfluous information. Our fractional program risk manager will also ensure the execution of the plan and that the program meets its other risk management contractual requirements.

  • Portfolio Risk Management Success

A hypersonic weapons business area at a large aerospace company needed visibility into risk across its $173M portfolio of programs.

We provided a portfolio risk manager to execute the RIO management for the portfolio. Support include subject matter expertise and advisory services to include ensuring that RIO management aligned with DoD guidance and company processes, and RIOs were properly documented and responded to. We also hosted quarterly review boards. This approach resulted in successful delivery on programs and award of $178M in follow on work.

  • Military Construction Success

A military construction unit was working on a road construction project on the U.S. Mexico border for the USBP and needed to deliver safely and on time.

We managed environment, safety and health risk by ensuring that equipment operators completed all required safety training prior to project execution, that daily safety briefs were given, rehearsals for MEDEVAC occurred regularly, and proper environmental process were followed. This resulted in the unit completing the project ahead of schedule and being the first unit to win the safety award in 4 years.
